Vote NO on I-2066: A Step Backwards for Clean Energy

Vote NO on I-2066: A Step Backwards for Clean Energy

Sun Path Electric is against Initiative 2066 and asks you to vote No on I 2066 because it is bad news for clean energy.

What is Initiative 2066?

Initiative 2066 undermines energy efficiency programs and slashes incentives for people and businesses hoping to shift to renewable energy like solar.

This initiative will lead to higher energy costs for Washingtonians and will slow progress on climate. Learn more here: interview with KUOW.

I-2066 Key Points:

There is No Ban on Natural Gas in Washington

Hedge fund billionaire Brian Heywood and other special interests have spent millions of dollars to spread misinformation about I-2066.

They are making every effort to convince residents that House Bill 1589 (passed last spring) established a natural gas ban in Washington, and that I-2066 provides the path to protect Washingtonians from this “ban.” This messaging is blatantly false. There is no ban on natural gas in Washington.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE), the state’s largest private utility provider, set the story straight in a press release last spring: “There has been a lot of misinformation about HB 1589…HB 1589 does not include a ban on natural gas, and it does not change PSE’s obligation to serve natural gas to our customers.”

Sun Path Electric Opposes I-2066 because we believe what our tagline says, that clean renewable energy is "Energy for a Better Tomorrow."

Talking Points:
NOW IS THE TIME. Net metering has  fostered industry growth, yet the growing demand for solar will soon surpass the cap on net  metering at the precise moment that Washington is striving to decarbonize its vehicles,  buildings, and electric grid.

● WE ARE TRAILING OTHER STATES IN AN AREA WHERE WE SHOULD LEAD. Compared to industry leading states. Washington slar deployment trails more thana decade behind. Present met metered solar deployment statewide contributes less than 1 percent to the state's fuel grid make up.

THIS BILL IS ABOUT FAIRNESS AND EQUITY. To date, net metering has not included solutions to support multifamily housing, renters, and homeowners with roofs unsuitable for solar. Net metering and  Virtual Net Metering provide a massive opportunity for the State to capitalize on the Federal  government's recent 10-year extension of investment tax credits related to solar energy through  the Inflation Reduction Act.

●  THIS IS NOT COST-SHIFTING. Far from a net cost, net metering is in  most cases a net benefit—for the utility and for non-solar rate-payers.

Sample phone message: This is a message is for Representative xxx. I am calling to strongly encourage you to support net metering and HB 1427. Please continue to expand the net metering program, ensuring that Washington will be a leader in clean energy and will be able to leverage federal clean energy funds to ensure a healthy future.
Save on Summer Cooling with Home Solar

Save on Summer Cooling with Home Solar

A solar panel system harnesses the summertime power of the sun and puts it to work to save you money on your energy bills (among many other benefits) when you need it the most, and this effect increases exponentially when a heat pump HVAC is connected to your home solar system.

Seattle Solar Power - Increases Home Value

Seattle Solar Power - Increases Home Value

Solar in Seattle has many benefits. Your home uses less energy from the utility because you are replacing that energy with solar energy. This saves money on your energy bill and protects our environment by reducing the home’s carbon footprint. All this good stuff has led many Seattle area home owners to invest in solar. But, what many people have not yet caught on to is that solar panels also increase the value of your home.
